Looking to rent an apartment within the $400-$550 range please. What areas/neighborhoods?

I looked on craigslist and one of the first ads was for $450 in Kendall. Its kind of far out and with another student who goes to FIU. Here are the amenities:

Stores nearby: Wal-Mart, Sedanos, Publix, Bank of America, BJ’s, LAFitness, McDonalds, Wendys, Pollo Tropical, Blockbuster…
Access to the entire house, kitchen, Pool, washer/dryer, cable, wireless internet, BBQ, A/C and all utilities included.

I know it will be hard actually living in a house with out a bidet and marble floors but I'm sure you'll manage.

wow, that's awesome. yeah i've seen a great deal of cheap prices for apartments in the miami area on craigslist (or at least, no more expensive than new orleans). that's why i brought it up on here to get the general idea of what areas i will be living in for apartments at those prices. those amenities sound perfect, la fitness is a great gym. thanks, ill continue checking out craigslist. thats how i landed my first apartment back in chicago.

Check TheFlyer dot com. I'm telling ya. There's a ton of "private" efficiencies with their own entrance, bathroom, parking, furnished, unfurnished. Some have full kitchens or kitchenettes.

I looked there first before even suggesting it earlier. There seems to be a ton. I almost trust TheFlyer more because you have to pay for the ads.

If your mother is in Miami, can she do any area scouting for you according to the addresses on the ads, etc.?

thanks alot, really appreciate the tip. i never heard of that website before, but it seems like they got some great listings. it's definitely been bookmarked. when my mother gets better i will try and see if she can help me out, i didn't even think of that, lol. appreciate it.

Totally agree on the Flyer...also, I think someone else had mentioned El Clarin, a little local newspaper that you can pick up at most Latin bakeries and grocery stores. There are lots of efficiencies there.

kind of off topic, and not directed towards any certain person... but to anybody wondering why new orleans is so expensive, if u didn't already know, after some research (this is news to me too), it turns out that before katrina many apartments/shotgun home sections, were running as low as $400-$500 throughout all over the city (except for the more expensive districts of course). when katrina hit though, many neighborhoods were wiped out, and many of those neighborhoods still to this day have not been rebuilt. now when all the new orleans residents (especially those who resided in those wiped out neighborhoods) who were in houston and other cities post-katrina started coming back, the city was technically physically smaller than it used to be due to the intense damage experienced in many neighborhoods after katrina. so the areas that are left over in the city were (and still are) becoming more crowded and compact with people, causing rent prices to raise throughout the city due to high demand from newcomers, those returning who left during katrina, and those who stayed and have been there since before katrina hit. those apartments/shotgun house sections that once ran for $400-$500 a month have now increased to $800-$1000 a month! it doesn't help that many people like me are coming to new orleans in droves to look for work due to its more stable job market, further populating these areas of the city.

im only stating this to make people realize that im not just exaggerating and complaining for the sake of complaing. but im just letting everybody know the reality of the situation. people are still under the impression new orleans is cheap (even i was for a while) when its really not. my arguement is this: why pay so much to live in new orleans, when you can pay the same in another city (ie Miami) and get much more in return? the job market in miami is in shambles, i realize the reality of this, as it was in chicago too, but that is why i would like to use this walmart transfer just to at least get my foot in the door. nam sayin?

lol, if u read all that, thanks for reading. i appreciate it. i underatand many people move to miami thinking it is all beaches and paradise, and I know it is really not, but that is why I am writing all this to defend my reason to move there. just spreadin some knowledge around. like i said, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
