Documentary photo project on Little Havana (University: home, neighborhood, construction)

Hey gente,

I'm a graduate student in photojournalism at Ohio University, but I'm from Little Havana. I'm returning home to do a chaptered project on LH. The topics I'll be covering are:

The Golden Exiles: a portrait series on the first generation of exiles that established the neighborhood

The Charter School: Trying to get access to spend a day documenting at the new Lincoln Marti charter school

The Big Project: The costs and benefits of the Marlins Stadium to the residents of the neighborhood

The Youth: Trying to get an idea of what it's like to grow up here and what the new sets of values are for the kids.

The Landscape: An ode to the neighborhood. A poetic look at all the color and culture beyond the Domino Park, cafecitos and symbols that tend to represent this place.

I was hoping for your help. I really like how active this forum is and everyone seems very helpful.

I'm looking for contacts in the neighborhood. Particularly for the Golden Exiles piece. Anyone know exiles who arrived here in the 60s? Part of that first generation?

I'm also looking to find someone who lives near the stadium, or works in the construction of it.

And I'm dying to shoot a quinces. Or some kind of ceremony.

Anyone with thoughts on these topics or good leads is welcome to comment.

This project is part of my coursework, but still very personal in nature. This is not for publication nor does it have any political intent. My main interest is to produce an evocative, realistic and surprising piece of the life and times of Little Havana.

I'll be in town between January 29 to February 7 to do my content gathering for this project.
