Not sure how many people here watch CNBC. I always have it on in the background.

CNBC: America's Top States For Business -- Editor's Introduction - Top States For Business - MSNBC.com

"Why do some states attract more business than others? How do they do it? And how does your state stack up? CNBC, America's Business Channel, looks at the best states for business -- and the worst -- in our exclusive study."

They're going to compare the states on:

-Cost of Doing Business
-Workforce
-Economy
-Education
-Quality of Life
-Technology & Innovation
-Transportation
-Cost of Living
-Business Friendliness
-Access to Capital

I don't imagine Florida will be in the top 5, but I will be curious to see what they come up with. I will keep you all updated.

I would think they would leave NY and CA from the list, people complain about taxes in those states.

Exactly. And high costs of living. You can buy a house in Buffalo for 100 thousand dollars, though! Upstate is losing a lot of business, and thus taxes/etc are actually fairly low and create a favorable business climate.

New York City = Business in the state of New York. Buffalo is a non-entity where business in NY is concerned.

Taxes are not an issue for large corporations who can usually manage to make deals with politicians to get tax breaks in return for bringing their business to a particular area. For smaller businesses, taxes are always an issue, no matter what state they're located in.

Did you even read the list?
They're going to compare the states on:

-Cost of Doing Business
-Workforce(Education levels upstate(vast area, the last time I checked) are higher than you think)
-Economy
-Education
-Quality of Life
-Technology & Innovation
-Transportation(A lot of upstate highways are under used due to the population shrinkage, plus cities upstate have good transit).
-Cost of Living
-Business Friendliness
-Access to Capital

A lot of businesses are puling out of the tri-county area in NY because of the high cost of living and the insane taxes. It's just too saturated. Manhattan will always be the countries' financial capital, but its more in a stagnant state than thriving.
