I haven't been back there in 8 years. Just curious if the over-development that started in the 90's with all the high-rise towers has killed the golden goose. It used to be affordable in the 80's when south beach was predominantly a senior citizen retirement community. You could buy houses for $100,000. Nowadays, those houses probably go for over a million.

Miami Beach has changed, it is the hotspot to be actually. They cleaned out the area pretty much, and the hotels on Ocean got restored to their original beauty. There are still seniors but less and less as the years go by. No kids under 21 allowed into the clubs and there is an ordancde to keep kids under 18 off the streets there after 11 pm. South Beach is commonly known now as SoBe...If you want to party and dine Lincoln Road South to 5th is the place to be. Restaurants and trendy shops have moved into the area also. SoBe is one of the best places in Miami-Dade County today.

And some people wondered why stores/restaurants closed their businesses this weekend. They just didn't want to deal with stuff like this.

Yes, Miami Beach is a nice place to live today. Yes in the '80s, you could get places in the cheap and you could also live in a dive apt if you wanted to as well. I remember going to many hardcore concerts at Lincoln theater... GBH, Bad Brains, the Replacements, Bxtthole Surfers. Good times.
