Hey guys, I live in Miami but my boyfriend just got a major job in Chicago and we're considering driving there. Shipping the car in addition to all the other appliances (tv's, comps, printer, winter clothes, etc) plus plane tickets came out to much more money.

So I was wondering if anyone had ever done this drive and approx. how long it takes.

Also, we'll be driving in October and I imagine the weather shouldn't be bad at all, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
K

I drove to Chicago from Miami in December...it is about 20 hours of driving...which is 2 days for most people. I left Miami around 4AM and got to Murfreesborough, TN around 6PM at night. The next day I left at 5 AM and got to Chicago around 4PM. When I went, it was clear driving the whole way.

thank you so much, you have no idea how much this helps. 2 days is actually one day less than we expected. In addition to the considerable amt. of money it will probably save us, it's all but good news then. thanks again!

if anyone else has any input, please post!

To figure out a ballpark time frame, I would use mapquest.com. Then figure out if and where you are going to stop. If you are going to alternate the driving with your boyfriend, obviously you will arrive quicker. Good luck and drive carefully.

Hmmm, I must be a slower driver than most. I try to take a break now and then to combat driving while asleep, and I try to obey the speed limits. It took me 18 hours of straight driving to get from Ft. Lauderdale to Birmingham. Granted not all of the road was interstate, and granted there were inevitable traffic delays, but I was pushing. Back when I was more reckless, I did the run in 14 hours during the middle of the night, traveling about 80 a lot of the time. That would still make Miami to Chicago in 20 hrs difficult for me. YMMV.

Two days seems right to me. I spoke to my girlfriend, who is driving to wyoming with her stepmother, last night and she was in southern Illinois. She left on Saturday.
