Hi,
My husband and I will be relocating to Miami area in 2 months. He is going to work remotely, and also traveling sometimes, so we would need to live no more than 30 miles from the airport.
I read couple of threads about neighborhoods in Miami. We are a couple that enjoy going out, but nothing wild.
We want to rent for a year, and then look for a home. Which safe and nice neighborhoods would you recommend to live?
Any positive and helpful feedback is very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I just moved to Miami in January. I live in Brickell and I truely believe it is the best place because it is in downtown and central to every part of the city.

I can be on I95 in 2 minutes ( i live right on brickell ave), takes 10 minutes to get to the airport unless its rush hour, takes 5-8 minutes to get to south beach, 10-15 with traffic, 10 to coconut grove and an extra 5 to coral gables. Takes about 25-30 to ft lauderdale.

There are 2 grocery stores within 5 minutes or less driving distance, a few bars/restaurant and I believe that is very safe; i jog at night and run into lots of ppl doing it. It is in the heart of downtown tho so
mostly condos, very few homes. Im in a townhouse (one of the few townhouse complexes) and i pay 1350 for a 2.5 2 floor unit with free parking for one car, 30 a month for an extra spot, its gated, its got 2 pools and a gym as well as tons of grass for kids to run around.

Nothing beats being on the balcony looking a the pool, lawn and palm trees and looking up and seeing a bunch of crazy nice high rises.

Also, i can be at the beach in key biscayne in under 10 mins.

If you're looking for a house, try Surfside or Bal Harbour area, or even Miami Beach area. If you want a condo, try Downtown or Brickell. You could even try Midtown if you're not scared to take Metro Mover.

If you are looking for an apartment definitely try the Brickell area they have some beautiful apartments, and nothing beats their views.
If you were looking for something cheaper you can try some apartments in downtown Kendall. Its not as nice as Brickell obviously but cheaper and in a good location, its right across from one of the best malls in the country.

If you are however looking for a house you have a lot more options, there is no place in Miami like Coral Gables. I highly recommend it for families. It is beautiful with its Mediterranean houses and large oak trees that line all of its streets. The area is quite expensive however.
For Cheaper Housing Kendall (which is a very large area) is great and has many different opportunities, all of Kendall is also very safe.
The Groove is another area that people like alot but it can be quite expensive as well and you have to be careful where in the Groove you go cause there is a small area that is a pretty bad area.
Finally there is Doral which is father away from the more popular places to go in Miami but you will get more for your money. The bigger issue may be that if you don't know spanish you may feel a little lost because most of the families here are very hispanic.

I wouldn't worry to much about getting to the airport. It is situated in the middle of Miami and just about any and every major highway or road leads you there. You can basically get to the airport in about 15 mins or so from any Miami Suburb.

Hope this helps
