Hey All, I am from Miami (Hialeah to be exact). I have been away for over ten years. I am trying to get back home and have a job lined up at UM. I am moving with my husband and two small baby girls (two years & 7 months). I know Broward well but am not really that familiar with South Miami. I have read other threads and have a good idea of where we should be looking but those had dates of 2008 on them and I wanted to make sure nothing has changed. Can anyone help me out?

I am going to look as close to UM as possible. Coral Gables (if we can afford it), Coconut Grove, Kendall.

I want to reap all the benefits or as many as I can of a SFLA life but still be in a safe place with decent public schools around. Am I dreaming?

I am also planning to rent at first to make sure we are happy with the area before we buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will attach a map from an older post just to make sure the boundries highlighted are still correct. Thanks so much!

Ask the mod to move you to the Miami forum. Close to UM - I would suggest the South Miami area - the Gables, The Roads and the uninc - that borders UM to the North.

Coral Gables if you can afford it, so you can be close to UM. If not, then Miami Springs. It's a little bit of a commute, but the neighborhood & schools are great for kids.

Other areas to look at are the City of South Miami, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Key Biscayne.
