I've lived in NY obviously, and visited both LA and Miami several times, but can't seem to get my mind around the 2 cities.

Fill me in on the +'s and -'s etc
are you a male or female ? Reason I ask is that single females can have it rough down here. I always here them complaining about the lack of quality guys. Everyone seems to be a player down here. If your male, you will like it here, if your a female....I would stick to LA. Just my humble opinion

I'm a male, and yes I am straight.

NYC is a jungle, and not having a car is a real hassle at times. Thats why I want to relocate to a city that I bring my car with me and live in a suburb 5 min away from LA or MIA.

Odds are I'll be getting my own apt, and odds are I'll be starting a business in the next 5 years. I have a feeling that NYC and LA are hot with competition and that making a splash in MIA would maybe be easier if I have the right stuff

Living in a suburb 5 minutes away from LA or MIA? Did you have any particular areas in mind? I'm not sure you have a clear concept of the driving/geography of either city. I was in Los Angeles last September - and the only thing that was 5 minutes away from my hotel room was the hotel pool . Robyn

Perhaps not. What fashion/clothing industries are located in Miami? I have a niece who does catalogue fashion photo shoots in the Miami area occasionally - but she lives in Atlanta (and that's where her employer is located). Robyn

^^^There are young fashion designers here in Miami. I am not sure if the woman that was on Project Runway a few years ago is still in Miami Beach, but she was good and had a following here in Miami.

This is the part I don't get... You live in NY and it's a hassle without a car.
But you will be bringing the nonexistent car to LA or MIA?

I suppose it all comes down to the old question; do you want to be a big shark in the pond or a small fish in the sea.

Either way, good luck!

I meant 15 minutes, major typo there when it comes to these cities haha
With LA I was thinking something along the lines of West hollywood, or santa monica. But when it comes to Miami I was considering something more like Aventura, Miami Beach or Bal Harbour since my school would be located in North Miami

When it comes to the car question though....I do have a car and I was unable to bring it to the city with me from NJ where my family lives now. Parking garage rates around my APT are 400 dollars a month!
So mass transit has been somewhat of a headache for me no matter how convenient and reliable it may seem.

Where is the school in north Miami (15 minutes is still pretty tough when you're talking about Miami driving). With Los Angeles it would depend 100% on where your school/work was (for example - when we drove from Beverly Hills to Santa Monica last year - it was 30-40 minutes getting there - non-rush hour - and almost an hour to get back in rush hour). These days - I'm not sure that traffic in Los Angeles is worse than in Miami - but the traffic in both places is pretty awful. Robyn

Traffic in LA is with out a doubt much worse though, ive experienced both first hand myself. So im figuring I can have a few more miles away in MIA...
