I need some help on where to go for a nice quick getaway with wife and toddler to see some dunes. Would be coming from Indy area so can't get up too far north on the Michigan side to keep this somewhat of a short trip.

Would like to see some light houses as well, any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm not exactly sure how far north is far north for you, but you have the Sleeping Bear Dunes which also have a cruise boat as well. And there are several lighthouses not too far from there around T.C.
Theres is Pointe Betsie Lighthouse, not too far from the Dunes as well.

Silver Lake (north of Muskegon) has some nice dunes and there is a lighthouse, which you can actually climb to the top and look around

In the Saugatuck-South Haven area, you can walk in the dunes at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, Laketown Township Park (north of Saugatuck), and Van Buren State Park (south of South Haven).

If you are in good shape, climb the stairs on Mount Baldy in Saugatuck, and run down the dune on the other side. This is a ginormous dune! Make sure you have a car parked in Oval Beach so you don't have to climb back up the dune to get back.

Take a ride on a Dune Schooner, or in other words an old truck set up for carrying passengers in the dunes. There are dune rides in Saugatuck and Silver Lake. It is very impressive, definitely something to take kids along. I still remember my dune ride in Silver Lake from when I was a kid.

South Haven has a lighthouse and easy access to the piers, so you can spend a day walking from the beach, to pier, to lighthouse then downtown for ice cream to reward your efforts.

There are dunes in Indiana also, along Michigans shore, if , distance is a problem. Otherwise, I would go for the best, Sleeping Bear Dunes up north.

Silver lake is really nice. There is a small inland lake then the dunes, then lake michigan. There are some nice campgrounds nearby. If you have a light enough 4x4 vehicle, there are areas where you cna drive around on the dunes.

Warren Dunes State Park Detail

This is what you are looking for. It's about 1/2 drive up into Michigan from South Bend, Indiana. Not bad, eh?
