So I am moving to Michigan in December. I have a job in Warren and am looking for apartments in the surrounding areas. I really do not want to live in Warren. I am 24 so I am looking for an area with a younger population, plus an area with bars and restaurants. I don't mind a commute, somewhere around 25 minutes. Any suggestions?

One name: the city of Royal Oak!

Younger population, lots of evening entertainment, close to Warren (15 to 20 minute commute depending upon exact locations in both cities)

Downtown maybe. The apartments outside of Downtown are hovels though. One in particular is a high rise with grated balconies and steel doors. The roof's falling off, and you can tell it should be Section 8 by the parking lot's hooptie stock. Disgusting.

Quite honestly though, I can't think of a single nice city around Warren that has decent apartments. There's a nice condo complex in Hazel Park on Woodward Heights, but that's all, really.

Apartments aren't very nice in Warren, but there are still some good residential neighborhoods. As long as you're not anywhere near that dump of a collection of neighborhoods south of 9 Mile. Maybe Troy?

Troy isn't a bad idea, but rents for nice apartments get kind of high as Troy is a major employment center (some believe it more relevant than downtown Detroit) and most of the city (but definitely not all) is a very desirable place. Sterling Heights directly north of Warren is okay, too, but not all the apartments are very nice anymore. The same goes for Warren apartments. Don't rent anything sight unseen.
