I am still with the same employer that I have been with for 16 years. I used to work 40+ hours per week but for the last 3-4 months the work load has been unreliable and I haven't been working much. Then for the last month I've probably only worked 1.5 hours total but I am available if/when the work comes in.
My husband seems to think I can file for unemployment and then if I get called in I would just report that as income for that week.
Does anyone know if this might be true?
I've went on the unemployment website but the only thing similar I could find is that if you are unemployed and then get a part time job you can continue to receive benefits. But nothing about if you are still technically employed.
Thanks

you can try. but they will fight it. good luck. state likes to lean on the business side on this. you might get the employer to up your hours by doing this, fire you (you will get beni's) and a possible lawsuit, or harrass you into quiting (where you will not get beni's no matter how hostile it was) good luck I went down this road and got nothing for my time.

You absolutely can file a claim....it is called "underemployment". I did it last year, as they cut our hours in the winter from 40-42 to 30-32. It is very common! File away, friend!!

Even in a temporary shutdown of a company you can file . The last job I had shut down on a Dec . 14 until the first Monday in January and I collected . Came back the 1st Monday in January 2009 and thats the last week I've worked .

So I filed and everything seems to have gone through so it looks like it worked. I have my first Marvin call on the 20th. I wish I would have known I could do this because I would have done it alot sooner.
