My husband and I are both insurance defense attorneys practicing in New York City. (My husband actually does coverage, the interpretation of the policy.) I grew up in MI and am anxious to move back. I really miss my family and the beautiful parks, lakes, etc. My husband is also on board despite having been raised in Manhattan. I know the auto industry is in the crapper. How is the market for attorneys?

I don't think it's too bad. I know of at least three law firms in downtown Grand Rapids that are hiring and expanding. Here's an article about one of them:

Grand Rapids – Rapid Growth - Ohio law firm sets up shop in GR, plans to generate jobs

And you can buy a new or renovated loft condo downtown, or a home in the nearby Heritage Hill Historic District, which is one of the largest residential historic districts in North America with over 1300 registered homes and over 60 architectural styles (and walk to work if you want).

Like this one, built in 1895, fully renovated, 4100 square feet for only $358,000:

And only 20 minutes from Lake Michigan. Just a thought.

*shameless plug for my hometown
