agree with lots of points in this thread.....detroit is a ridiculous place to have a state fair, the main reason why i never went. i'm GLAD it was cancelled, in hopes that it could start up somewhere safe where it could flourish.

A new fairground in the center of the state would be nicer, cleaner, safer, and would be more likely to succeed.
I think relocating the fair to the Lansing area is a great idea! Since it's in the central part of the state it would be easier for people from all across Michigan to attend, not just those in the southeast (mostly urbanized and therefore less likely to be interested in the first place) portion. Plus MSU is well known for their agriculture so it makes sense for that reason too.

I agree with some of the posters here, that the State Fair be centralized. Lansing or Mt. Pleasant places it more in the center. As a 4-H member, I loved going to the Jackson County Fair. Never had any interest in going to the State Fair.

I also submit Saginaw (the valley is crop land & a great fair ground there already with lots of parking ), Midland, Clare, Cadillac and even some smaller towns like Fowlervill. any place but DETROIT.

The Saginaw fairground is in Cheasaning, and yes that area is the epitome of what rural life in Michigan is like. Like I said, any place in central Michigan would be a great location. It would give fairgoers a true rural experience, and it makes it easier for people from Grand Rapids and northern parts of the state to see the fair as well. No one in lower Michigan is further than 2 hours from most central Michigan towns. Im not sure I want it at the Saginaw fairgrounds in Cheasaning, I live WAY too close to that. I dont think I want that circus in my backyard lol.
