There are a number of Cadieux's who live in the Alpena area. They pronounce it cad-you.

Here's a good one:

Lake Orion......it's Or-ee-on.

But.....

Orion Township?

Or-eye-on.

Never could figure that one out.

I grew up on the Tittabawassee River. Learn to spell that as a kid and Mississippi is cake!

I had so much fun reading this thread! I had a lot of trouble when I was younger; I visited some family in North Carolina. Of course, I grew up in Barry County, and occasionally we visited CharLOTTE. Imagine my confused little brain when I was in CHARlette NC.

I recently moved to Southern Illinois, and we've got some fun one's here: Cairo? That's Kay-Ro, like the syrup. Vergennes? Like vir-GINS. They're serious about abstinence there! MY personal favorite is Vienna. If you're from ANYWHERE but Southern Illinois, that's an Italian city. But here, it's VI-enna, and people literally laugh at you if you get it wrong. Only make that mistake once!
