Every surrounding school district is better. See if any of them will allow you to transfer. Ann Arbor, South Lyon, Northville, Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Livonia. The only nearby districts that are not better that i can think of are Ypsilanti and Wayne/Westland. Are any of these open enrollment?

If you are moving from out of town can you put your kid in Canton High school or is there a lottery system? Or is it based on district lines?

I am deciding if I want to move to Canton or Farmington Hills this spring. I have 2 girls, one that starts Kindergarten and the other starting Middle school. I plan to stay in either area until they graduate so this is a important decision.

Which are has the best elementary and middle schools? I also need a little guidance on the real estate market in those areas since I will be looking to buy a house in early 2013.

Have you considered private school? If so, try St.Mary's Catholic School in Wayne...named as "Distinguished Private School". We too fell in the VanBuren District. Our house is situated few houses away from houses in a Plymouth Canton School district. Very disturbing when I see kids everyday being picked up by Plymouth Canton School buses.
