Don't forget some of the smaller cities like Iron Mountain, where you can pick up a fixer-upper house for less than $20,000 or a nice, older 3-4 bedroom home for around $40,000. It's easy to have a nice relaxing lifestyle and piece of mind when your mortgage payment is less than $300 a month (including an escrow for taxes & insurance)

my wife and I had our honeymoon there back in 81. I've been there several times since. Nothing but GREAT memories of a superbly beautiful place. I can see why someone would wish to live there. It's a bit more rugged than a city environment would provide, but the open space, clean air and water alone is worth the price of entry. You folks living there have nothing but to be proud of the place. It's one of the most special places on the planet....please continue to take care of it :-)

Yes continue to take care of the U.P. Its a really beautiful area esp. the drive from St.Ignace along the shore to Escanaba.I would love to relocate to U.P. myself or live within a few min. from it and enjoy it year round! As a fellow Michigander have a great day.

Yes , the U.P. is so awesome. I'm from Georgia lol , and I wish I lived in U.P. Michigan Especially Marquette. It is so very beautiful. And I love Lake Superior and all the Great Lakes. But Superior is my favorite one.

When I lived in Michigan (which was pretty much the first 32 years of my life), my favorite vacation spot was always the Upper Peninsula. I went up there as often as I could. Beautiful part of the country. Driving up the Keweenaw Peninsula on U.S. 41 under a canopy of trees one summer, all the way till it ended -- and then looking out over beautiful, dark blue Lake Superior once I got to Copper Harbor -- is one of my best memories of growing up in Michigan.

I do nto wish I lived there, but I am glad the people who live there do live there. They make it more pleasant to visit. Both the place and the people add a great dynamic to our State. (No, you cannot leave and become your own State!).

Talking West side of the UP

Last year in early Aug my hubby & I came to MI. Hubby went to Mo-tech back in the early 70's . I had never beeen there. I loved it. we started out in South haven drove along the coast straight North. We checked out so many places in such a short amount of time. After leland we went around Traverse City then across the Mackinac Bridge. It was a BEAUTIFUL drive to Paris where we stayed. We just LOVED Whitefish Point. So peaceful & beautiful.

This year we wanted to come back & explore the UP on the west side. Marquette was just the beginning of what we wanted to see. Iron country & keewaunee county. we won't be able to make it this year, but next year it is a must. We can't wait.

Everyone was so nice in MI. We never ran into any negative people.
Once again we only have a week. We wished we could go back to Whitefish Point, but everyone I have spoke to said the west side of the UP is just as beautiful.
Is this true ???
Are their beautiful rocks in this area like Whitefish Pont ? I Love rocks.

We just can't wait to come back to visit.

Yes..the west side of the U.P. is spectacular!! There are tons of rocks along most of Lake Superior. Like rocks? Check out Little Girls Point!

Cool 7 months of winter and 2 months of mosquitoes.....

It's a beautiful place to visit. About mid-July or even mid-August.
Having lived here for 29 years I can tell you that as soon as I'm able.....I'm outta here.
