Hi, I'm looking at moving my young family to live in one of these areas of Michigan within the next year. My husband will be working at a hospital in Royal Oak, and we are trying to pick the best place for us to live. Schools are the most important deciding factor. Neighborhood safety and crime are concerns as well. We want to be close to everything, but somewhere comfortable, clean and family friendly is highly desirable. Any advice?
Thanks!

Move to Clawson Because Its the most affordable, smaller and Pretty safe and the schools are smaller and there still very good (the high school only Has Around 530 students). the middle school has around 340, the elementary schools are kenwood elementary which is around 330 and Schalm Is around 490.

My automatic response would be Troy. Schools are nationally ranked and a lot of people move there for the schools. Problem is that their only library is going to close May 1st. The city's not broke, but they can't figure out how to pay for it. Also doesn't have a downtown area.

Berkley is also known for having good schools as well.

I lived in Royal Oak and it's family friendly. Decent schools. Vibrant downtown.

Clawson outsources a lot of their services to Troy; however, there's something to be said about living in a tight-knit community and small schools. They upgraded their downtown recently and it's really sharp.

In all of these areas, you will be close to everything. Most neighborhoods are family friendly, but it really depends on the neighborhood. You really can't do wrong by moving to any of these areas.

What is your budget? I was going to suggest Birmingham which is expensive but in this market you could get a deal or I saw some very good priced rentals. The schools are excellent, near RO,shopping, parks, small downtown.
