This may not be entirely true. If you are talking about the number of jobs, yes, it will be decades before we get back there, but if you are talking about percentages, it may not take too long. Rememebr a lot of people left Michigan and a lot retired. Thus, although we may have lost 500,000 jobs, we may only need to re-gain 200,000 to get back to the employment level that we were at in 2005. The retired people and the people who left are no longer unemployaed in Michigan so the number of people who want jobs is also reduced along wihtthe number of jobs. As demenad grows, unless people start moving back in hordes, many jobs will be abundant.

It also depends on the jobs. While itis not likely that there will be an abundance of jobs for unskilled labor, there may be an abundance of jobs in many professions very soon. A lot of professionals also left Michgian or retired. Most of our college graduates have been running off to other states upon graduation for many years. Some fields are hurting for professionals, or will be very soon (unfortunately teaching does not appear to be one of those fields).

This is interesting.

Growing state revival could ease budget cuts

For the first time in as long as I can remember, the state may end up with more money at the end of the year than previously thought. I think that goes all the way back to the 90's when that happened.

Wow! Great info on this thread!

I've been feeling a few pangs of homesick this spring. I've been out of MI since 2007, and out of the Midwest since 2009 - I've even poked around the job boards a little with the crazy idea of coming home even though the timing just isn't right yet. There is a lot of great to be said about the people of the Great Lakes region, both MI and OH.

There was also this story of the guy who wants to start an indoor shrimp farm here in Michigan.

Ive never given up on this state, and everything points to a huge Michigan comeback....thats a fact.
How come I never hear anything?! I didn't know they're putting a hotel/water park in Mt. Pleasant! Finally, another reason to go there besides the casino

I'm twisting my g/f's arm to go back to MI because I'm seeing 4 jobs in the GR for my trade.......oh how I'd love to snag that good pay and benefits, all the while riding the gravy train. She's from there and I'm not and she don't want to go, go figure.
