Hi all

I am moving to Lansing in May to take up a position at MSU. I have just embarked on getting to know the area from afar and wondered in you had an advice on apartments/lofts (preferably with harwood floors and a vintage feel) in the Okemos, Haslett, Groesbeck, lake lansing road in east lansing area. I am likely going to be looking for a 1 or 2 bed place with a budget max of $800. I am 28 years old, female and although i have a boyfriend, i will be moving to Lansing alone so I am looking for somewhere safe and convienient with a little bit of life to it. I am coming from Minneapolis via London, I know Lansing is a small town but i am sure i will crave the big city feel at some points, so notes on young, urban feeling areas would also be great. Oh also, i likely will not have a car once i arrive so looking for convenient locations for public transport before i invest in a car.

On another note, what are the major banks and credit unions in the area...can you recommend which ones have most locations in the town and have good customer service?

There are some cute places right next to Frandor Shopping Center that have recently undergone major renovations and might be what you are looking for. If you are still looking, shoot me a private message so I can tell you the name of the complex without being zapped for advertising!

MSU Credit Union is pretty good for a bank - it is only available to people affiliated with MSU (students, former students, or staff) so I believe you would be able to use it if you are working at State. It's been my main (and only) bank for years and I've never had any problems.

Downtown Lansing is the place to go for "urban". Lots of bars, a great night life on Thursday-Saturday. It's very cheap to rent a place in that area (I had a 2 bedroom for $695/month) or you can take a CATA bus from East Lansing, since the CATA station is only a few blocks from the bars.

Downtown would also be ideal if you do not have a car since, again, the CATA bus station is right there, so you can easily get on a bus to anywhere else in the whole Lansing area. Buses do not really go out to Okemos or Haslett much, but they do cover downtown and MSU's campus quite well.
