Given how big the state is, I would think there are natives in place like the UP or the Western part of the state who haven't been to Detroit. I have yet to meet them. Do they exist??

I meet people in Grand Rapids all the time who have never been to Detroit. Or only for a Tiger's game.

Its been quite a while for me....not since I was a kid to see the Tigers, and I live like 70 miles away. I hate big cities though, so its nothing against Detroit.

I've been to downtown Detroit, but I never got out of my car. I was just doing a quick look/drive around, so that probably doesn't count.

I can only think of a couple I know who haven't been to Detroit. We get down there once or twice a year.

I know some Michigan folks who have never been to Detroit. I know some who have never been to Lansing or Grand Rapids. I know many who have never been to the U.P.

I've lived or spent long leisure time in every corner of Michigan from Copper Harbor to Ironwood to Alpena to Frankfort to Bridgman to Flat Rock and most every point in between........ but I have never been to the Thumb area of MI.
It seems like every year I say I'm going to make a trip over there just so I can say I've seen all of MI but it never pans out for some reason. Perhaps this year

(the closest I've gotten is Flint and Bay City areas)

We lived in NW Mi(below TC), I vagly remember going to Detroit in the 50's to visit some relatives. I hated it there. (don't ask me why) I can only figure that being raised on a Dairy Farm in Cadillac,Mi. , the country has never left me. I lived in So Cal for 36 yr's and always settled in small rural towns. I couldn't/can't stand the Big cities.
Now I have 4 sisters who live around Detroit, Warren, Royal Oak, Monroe and...hummm?..one more in the same area that I can't think of.

I drove back to visit them in 2005, then drove up to Saginaw, Cadillac, Alpena and Cheboygan to visit some old school buddies. While I was at it, I drove over the Mackinac bridge.

Even here in Oklahoma, I stay away the only 2 big cities there are in the state as much as possible...OKC and Tulsa.
