Single guy in my 20's looking to relocate north. A good idea? Any suggestions on the best places to look?

You need to be more specific. What kind of lifestyle are you looking for? Off hand, I would say a single person your age would be happiest up near or in Traverse City.

I've been to the UP several times to go snowmobiling and camping, and it seems like most younger people want out ASAP. Now, if you're talking about below the bridge in "lower" Michigan, I'd go to Traverse City.

Yes, talking about below the bridge. Grand Rapids native here. Just curious as to what kinds of things are available, sports leagues (softball, basketball), bar scene etc. I've only spent time up that way in the summer when its full of tourists.

It comes down to what YOU like to do. If you like the nightlife, going out, drinking with your buddies I'd think TC is about the best place to be. They used to have a comedy club I went to a few times when I lived in Rapid City not sure if it's still there. But if your prefer peace and quiet and seclusion with the occasional trip for the bar scene then TC is not the place to be unless you live on the outskirts of it. You'd also have to LIKE the idea of a steady stream of down state people coming and going a good part of the year. Another big question is what do you do or plan on doing for a living? That is a major factor as well.

If you want anything remotely like city life then I think it really has to be Traverse City. You sound like any single person in their 20s who wants choice in activities. If you get too far out in isolated areas you will have a hard time meeting other people in your age group who share similar interests. You'll have to drive miles and miles to get involved in different things. My two cents...
