If I opened up a place down south, or maybe even down river called Hillbilly deli some people might be offended. Some people might not. The point is to respect other peoples sensitivity unless they are very very obviously too thin skinned.
Mick and **** aren't used much any more and more importantly probably were never used in Michigan much so people don't have that emotion to go with the slur. 25 years ago some tourist from Boston probably would have punched the owners lights out. Today, if Traverse City really wants to get tourism from people on the east coast I don't think this will cut it.
And even if it isn't an ethnic slur per se....its pretty low class. I think there are other more clever names you could come up with to denote ethnic blue collar deli that would denote a little pride and sense of humor. This I'm personally not that offended by but neither do I think its cute, funny, clever or anything but sort of stupid and lacking in imagination. Which makes me wonder if the food will be the same.
How about "I sunburn, my buddy doesn't" Deli and Market? Orrr, "Pizza and a Guinness, eh mate?"

Let's help the owner out and come up with some good ones.

In the vein of the old Carlos Murphy's restaurants, how about Vito McDougall's? I'm really not sure how much less offensive that is, though.

Ticks me off every time I see the sign. I will not eat there!

(Well maybe that is becasue the food is bad, but I can say it is cuz of the name, cant I?) I have never had the opportunity to feel put upon before, this is my one chance. I am going to gather my friend and make signs and march in protest!

Probably my friend will nto want to march much beyond the refridgerator to get a beer, but it is a good effort. We will make signs anyway.

The food at cracker barrel is awful. And I think it's because I'm white. Bastards.

My Irish grandfather used to say, "When two Irishmen get together, 'tis a word and a blow, and the blow comes first."
