I would say they are starting about now...if not already. Once school is out in early June...watch out!

I guess that is good, and bad. I was hoping by coming up in early to Mid-June nexst year for our survey trip, we'd avoid the crowds. But, then I guess if it is crazy by then, at least we'd see things realistically, before deciding to spend a month or so in a place. Thanks.

I think of all those towns you listed, Traverse City during Cherry Fest is the only one I'd categorize as "crazy" during the Summer tourist season. Busy, yes. The crowds and energy are what make them great. No one likes a ghost town in the summer (well some do).

For some tourists, as soon as the snow is gone. The majority of it starts Memorial day week-end and goes steady until Labor Day week-end. Ludington was very busy this week-end. For the last few weeks though there have been an increase in out of town plates.

Crazy is a relative term. Mid-July in Northern Michigan is still pretty easy to navigate. Nothing like Michigan Avenue in Chicago a few days before Christmas! :-)

Sorry for the hyperbolic use of the word crazy.

Let me try this. The intention is to check out most of the Western side of Northern MI above M-10, and most of the UP. No real firm town A on Monday, town B on Wednesday type itinerary. We just want to get a feel for different areas, not necessarily do and see things.

I should have asked, " Could we get away with not making motel resevations in Mid-June in that part of the Michigan?"

US 10 heading west from 131 was a steady stream of traffic this past weekend.

I have been to Traverse City for the Cherry Festival. Do yhey still put you in the stocks if you can't prove having eaten a cherry product?

What else is there for tourists in Michigan? That was about the only thing I could find.

Avoid Michigan the Saturday before July 4th thru the Sunday after July 4th. Anytime before or after is fine.
