The article is nothing new but I wonder if residents would welcome a resurgence in the mining or timber industry if the opportunity arose.

Timber industries? Absolutely.
Mining..... as long as it's not sulfide mining techniques, I would say definitely the majority.

Lol. A rural community crying that its dying?? What do you expect? I don't know of any young graduate that would want to spend his skills cutting wood or digging the earth. They have the whole world as their playgorund and when there are places out there with ACTUAL jobs relating to their majors or career paths, you can't blame them. Like the article said, an ACTIVE tourist industry is their best hope right now.
