Byron Center--about ten miles south of Grand Rapids--is a good option.

Near Flint there is Davison, Lapeer, Imlay City, Otisville and Millington to the east. To the west there is Owasso, Chesining and Montrose. Clio and Caro to the north of Flint isn't bad either.

There's plenty of information on weather, temps and snowfall on the C-D city pages.

Not bad at all, but that's objective. I prefer winter to summer.

Depends on where you are coming from. If you are coming from Barrow, Alaska then they are short, warm, and hardly any snow. If you are coming from Key West, Florida they are long, cold, and a crap load of snow.

Check out Owosso...Corunna...Perry. We live in Corunna and Love it here. Its a small town without a whole lot, but is connected to Owosso which has about everything. We love Corunna schools and think they are some of the best in Michigan. We get about 50-80" of snow a year, but mostly somewhere in between...nothing too major and kinda boring if you ask me. There is very little crime here in Corunna, and the same with Owosso and even Perry....which is south west of here.

Snow fall totals will be more near GR because of the lake affect snows.
Near Flint you will probably have to clean your drive a couple times a week some years for a month or two, then outer years you will have to drive north of Bay City to even find snow.

Any town in Shiawasse, Clinton or Ionia counties. They are between GR and Flint and would give you access to both cities. Also this part of Michigan is very rural, agricultural and has low crime. Some towns to look at would be Owosso, St. Johns, Ionia, plus many other tiny villages throughout the area. Now your question about winter, that area between Flint and GR gets around 50 inches of snow a year. Its considerably snowier than the Detroit area, but not as bad as areas further north.
