It's that time again...the Leland Wine & Food Festival is Saturday, June 11

16 Leelanau and Old Mission wineries, local brewers, live music and a dozen area restaurants dishing up some great food, all under the tents in beautiful Leland Harbor just North of Historic Fishtown.
This is a great time to taste Michigan wines and also talk to the winemakers and vineyard owners who grow and make one of Michigan's finest agricultural products. The chow ain't bad either!
One of my favorite events of the summer

I think our Michigan wines from this area are wonderful. I love Leland!

Unfortunately I'm not moving back up until July, or else I'd be there. Leelanau is awesome! That M-22 drive is one of the best in the country.

We love that festival! Only problem, believe it or not, is that it is so popular and crowded nowadays that it has become an ordeal and not fun anymore

Were you there last year Peter B?
They've almost doubled the size of the fest grounds and added another large tent, spreading things out considerably.
Nothing can really be done about parking in Leland..there's not very much because of all the water...so it's a good idea to go with friends or have friends go with you. Better yet, go by boat and stay in the new Leland harbor. You can trailer in your boat the day before or come by water, they've got like 60 some slips there. I think the boaters have the right idea. You get your boat, and the cool new harbor building with lots of showers bathrooms and the lounge with tv and wireless internet.

Wine tasting time in a couple days...the weather looks pretty good, but there are two 100 ft tents just in case.

Well, it wasn't the best weather last Saturday, but the food was hot, so was the music, and the wines were great. I loved Chateau Fontaine's Chardonnay, two or three Pinot Grigios, Shady Lane's Riesling and my red choice was Tony Ciccone's (Madonna's dad) Ciccone Vineyard Cabernet Franc. Good red wine is not easy to make up north, and Tony hit that one out of the park.
Nice to meet Tony at his table and be able to ask questions about that great red he was pouring.
Here's Tony handing off a bottle of his wine for pouring.
