Well... it's been almost a week.
Any updates on the Michigan black sweet cherries ??? Are they ready yet ? If so, how long do the produce/farmers markets/stands have them ?
Thanks...

Eating them as I type tonight.

Not a huge crop this year, the Spring was "odd" and while we didn't get a frost while the blossoms were out, it cooled off significantly and a lot of them were not pollinated. The ones I picked this morning are nice, plump, and delicious.

Cherries will probably last a couple of weeks is all. It is shaping up to be a banner year for peaches and Apples though.

There are sweet cherries at every roadside stand in West MI right now and they're delicious. The cherries are late, and so should be available for a few weeks. Strawberries are still in season and really wonderful. Blueberries won't be far behind!

Fresh blueberries as well today here. This is one of my favorite times of the year. Living in an area surrounded by fruit and veggie farms and orchards, it is always great to swing in and be able to get/pick fresh food in a huge variety. For the longest time when I moved away, a store would have "fresh peaches" for sale and the produce managers would look at me like I suddenly grew a third head when I would ask what variety the peaches were. They would come up with "Georgia" or something just as lame. Most didn't know the difference between a cling and a freestone; let alone a Hale Haven, Red Haven, Flaming Fury, or Glo Haven to save their lives.

We as well had odd weather like MI this year. Where wasn't our weather odd this year (?)

We are driving thru into MI 8-2. So save some for us would ya ???

Everyone posts about all these roadside stands... where would these roadside stands be ?
On highway 31 along the coast ? Where ?

If we get there and there are none. I will know who ate them all.
At least save us some peaches for us...I make an awesome Tropical Peach Preserves

Sweets probably have another week or two...ripening is speeding up due to very hot weather. Tarts will be in for weeks, but they're not that fun to eat on their own. Peaches will be along soon, blueberries and Saskatoons are being picked by friends of mine right now. Raspberries now, apricots soon also.

Right now the Black Sweet Cherries in this area are still doing good, they probably will be done and gone by next week. The Rainer's are very good this year and I just picked up a big container of them from a local grower. They should be good for another week or so. Tart cherries (for pies and the like) are in full swing as well around here. Stopped by the local farmers market this morning and picked up fresh Sweet Corn, Apricots, Cherries, Blueberries, and one had a few Blackberries left. Love this time of year in Michigan. Best produce of anyplace I have lived, with a huge variety.
