Hello:

I currently live in Columbia City, IN and I'm considering a job offer in Reed City,MI.

Can anyone share your experiences and what's it like to live in Reed City,MI?

Things to do, weather, is the people there generally friendly and no so closed minded and conservative like the one from this 10,000 small town (Columbia City,IN).

Thanks,
Roberto

Not sure Roberto, but you might get more response on the general Michigan board, Reed City is pretty far from Grand Rapids.

I don't live there, but I'm not too far away, I go there often to shop. I like it, it's a sleepy, safe, midwestern town, to me that's a good thing. I suspect it's quite conservative, but folks here are generally live and let live, as long as you do the same.

It is a very, very small town, surrounded by very, very small towns, and a long way from a bigger city. I think it's wonderful, but it's not everyone's cup of tea...

There's not a lot to do, more options in Big Rapids (15 minutes away) even more in Grand Rapids (90 minutes away) but it has a surprising amount of amenities, nice local grocery, some nice local restaurants (family type). Other than that it's pretty much home and hearth...

One of my good friends is from there. we visit it often in the winter as it is a cross roads for the snomobile trail on old RR beds. East takes you to Farwell, west goes to Baldwin, and North to Cadillac. Trails are normally in great shape. We normally stay in Evart 12 miles east as there is a motel just about on the trail and the price isn't as high as those in Cadillac.
The snomobileing there is really great for lower Michigan as you can connect to so many trails to go to so many places. Mid week is the best time to go though as week end traffic on the trails can be bad. Dirt biking is also pretty good, the cross state dirt bike trail is close to Reed City and the MMCC keeps it marked well.

There is good family style dining in many of the resturants and the bars serve passable food too. Reed City is also the county seat and home to the sherffies office. Interstate 131 runs north and south just 2 miles out of town so getting to Cadillac doesn't take all that long or going south to Grand Rapids. Big Rapids to the south is a college town home to Ferris State.

Lots of open state lands near for hunting, shrooning and berry picking. Plenty of lakes with good size fish also.

Most of the people are GOP voter pukes but they were raised that way, Since the area in the past was mainly farms and the GOP coddled the farmers and still do today. Never the less they normally keep that fact to them selves unless you happen to go to a barber shop on a Staturday.
Yogert is big in town taking up a lot of area that used to be part of the down town.

Property taxes don't seem to be to bad, My friend doesn't complain about his any way but his place is closer to Leroy than Reed City.

Well, most of the previous poster's info is correct. Not sure what "GOP voter pukes" are, but it sounds offensive. And I believe he/she means Yoplait instead of Yogert. Yoplait is a big employer in Reed City, and is also very supportive of the community. The snowmobile trail is also used for bicycling. Some of it is paved. I have found the people to be friendly, and mostly mind their own business.

"Yogert is big in town taking up a lot of area that used to be part of the down town."

I ment yogert as that is what they make there for the most part.
My friends sister worked there for nearly 30 years.

Lot of towns eggs put in that one basket way I see it but it is in the basket. For now till the town decides they can't support the company any longer.
