Pullman is basically two cross streets and a blinking stoplight, a party store, pizza joint & a bar. Can't speak to farms - sorry, but that's what the town is like. It's in an area of recreation (Allegan State Game Area), some cottage lakes, and farming.

It is quite poor. If you have a lot of possessions, you may be a target of theft.

I wouldn't call it high crime, but it is a good example of rural poverty.

That area is nowhere near as poor as other areas of the state.

I can't really speak to the crime issue - info on the web seems hard to come by. I travel through the area for recreational purposes.
The immediate "downtown" seems somewhat depressed, but that's only a couple of blocks.

The two lakes are heavily cottaged with people of means. To the northeast is Allegan state game area which is sparsely populated.

The local police dept is Lee Twp. They might be biased in their info.

I would check with Allegan County sheriff - possibly more objective.
Allegan County : Sheriff's Department
The area is pretty rural and I feel the crime is probably low.

There is some sandy soil in the area, although there is good farming soil too. The state forest is owned by the state because the soil was too poor to farm.

I drive through the area quite often, anyone who has driven through Lee Twp would agree that there is a lot of poverty. I'm not sure that translates to a threat of crime for someone who is watchful and doesn't cause trouble.

We seriously looked into buying a place in that region about 18 months ago but backed away due to all the reports we heard in the area concerning the steady increase in drugs, meth labs, and property crime.

You will have to do your own research and decide if that area is right for you.

Two friends I grew up with are from Pullman, so I spent alot of time there. Their families were more middle class, and didn't have any theft issues. I never felt unsafe there. I did find this article about meth being on the rise in Allegan county, but apparently Pullman is not in the "hottest" part of the county.

As far as farming, I know there are a few Blueberry farms in nearby Grand Junction, and at least one that I can think of in Pullman.
