Well for nightlife and something to do during the day, I'd probably pick Rochester or even Rochester Hills if there was an affordable deal on a apartment. Out of all the downtowns in Oakland Co. Rochester is the best IMO and caters to mostly guys you're age. Auburn Hills also has affordable housing that I'm sure someone in their mid-20s would afford, plus there are a couple of bars in the downtown area (though downtown Auburn Hills is super tiny).

If you're willing to commute a bit further to get to Auburn Hills, how about Troy or even Royal Oak.

Royal Oak is the happening place for 20 somethings. Rochester hills is suburbia and strip malls. Hanging out at the bar at an Applebees? It is not quite all Applebees, but not a real happenng place it is a place for well to do families. The City of Rochester is pretty neat though, but small.

You might want to stick with renting in AUburn hills for now until you get a feel for the area. You can always move. A short commute = a better life.
