Hello fellow Michigan Gardeners!

Just wanted to start a thread dedicated to all of those who put their green thumbs to work in the dirt for flowers or food. Share your experience and pictures of your gardens.

This is my first year so I am pretty much clueless, but can't wait to get started. Seeds have already been started and are sprouting. Lets hope I do not kill all of them.

I enjoy gardening. It still amazes me how persistent the weeds can be even after decades of faithfully pulling them out every week. Seems like they'd be eradicated by now. ...

You were pretty confident that the last frost has passed. It's supposed to get close to freezing this weekend. I'm just now thinking about planting seeds.

Nothing can be planted outdoors here for another few weeks. Today was the first time in a few weeks that over night didn't go below freezing, been down in the low 20's. Garden shops aren't open yet either.

I see the OP is just south of Mt. Pleasant (Shepherd, MI 48883). Hope he/she plans to cover up the seedlings. Forecast low of 31 degrees Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.

Oh, I usually tempt fate and plant seeds in early May (I live in a suburb just north of Detroit). Usually I have enough seeds, so if they freeze, I just reseed. Plus, I figure it will take a week or two to germinate, so they should be somewhat safe in the ground even if we get a quick freeze. I may plant seeds after this weekend if the extended forecast looks safe.

Also, it helps to water just before a freeze is expected. The water actually provides some insulation.

Mine are all indoors right now so I have no fear of frost. I am moving so I wanted to get an early start on my plants since I will be kinda busy digging up my areas for the new garden beds. Things wont be going into the ground for a little while yet.

Im planting first of May. Its worth the gamble this year, I mean how often are the trees green in early April?? how often is it 80 in march?? How often do we have mild winters like this years?? Never in my lifetime. I think planting early is a good bet this year.

Anyone have any experience using biodegradible pots? I am using all BD pots for the ease of transplant. Did they work well for you?

We never had any luck with them. The plants do OK in them. But we have bought the seedlings and 2-3 months later when they were struggling, we dug them up and the pots were still intact and the plant was severely root bound.
