Hello everyone,

I am looking for a place to live in Michigan and I think I narrowed down my search to the grand rapids area. From reading online Holland and Wyoming are very nice places to live. I just have a few questions. Also, I don't have kids so schools are not a top priority yet.

Is there a lot to do? My girlfriend and I are early 20's so we would like to go out on the weekends.
How is the snowfall in the areas?
Do these areas have high crime rates?

Any other information would be great.

I know I can find this stuff online but I rather have people who live in these areas tell me.

Thank you,

Rich

Don't need snow?
Holland and coastal towns get more lake effect snow than Grand Rapids. This map is accurate.

Cities keep their streets clear, county surface roads can be tricky or impassible at certain times. Temps are usually a few degrees warmer with the snow. Just keep in mind that winter wind/snow patterns move east or southeast.

Wyoming and the GR area in general is much better for early 20 somethings as far as nightlife and weekend entertainment. While Holland does have some cool places and a nice downtown, it's definitely not the first place to come to my mind when I think of going out, whereas GR is.

I don't think of either place as being unsafe, but perhaps someone else could provide more specifics. City Data also has crime index information on both places.

You might also post in the Grand Rapids forum for opinions, if you have not already done so.

Notdeconcentrate,

Thank you for the information. Holland is off the list. I'm going to look more into the east side of the grand rapids now. This whole process is both so stressful and exciting at the same time!
