Hello:

I will be relocating to the Lansing area in August and I have been looking for apartments online but everything seems to be old or outdated. I would like to know which are the newer apartment communities in the Lansing area (Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, etc)? We are a couple of professionals in our 20's and would love an area close to restaurants, bars and parks. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks!

Although not the "newest" I would suggest looking at the ones on Marsh Road or Lake Lansing Road. You are far enough away from campus to avoid the student population.

Marsh Point
Benson Hills
Lake of the Hills
Old Farm
Stonehedge
Homestead
Carriage Hills

Of these, given OP's desires, Benson Hills, Homestead and Lake of the Hills are likely to be too "old" or outdated.

I lived in Stonehedge (and it's sister complex, Timber Lake) for nearly 6 years, and while they're fairly nice on the exterior, the apartments are anything but luxury.

Not sure about Marsh Point or Old Farm. I know Carriage Hills (although older) keeps their apartments fairly well updated, but it's not really "close" to anything (but not far away either). I'd say it's equidistant to Haslett, Okemos and downtown EL. I live about 3 blocks from Carriage Hills and love the area.

If you want something "higher-end," I would suggest Central Park in Okemos (especially the townhomes).

Otherwise, most of the new luxury development has taken place in Lansing (don't really understand why).

Rather than looking for apartment complexes, it sounds like you should look into renting out houses in the downtown area. I rent the first floor of a 3-story house (my apartment is the first floor, the other apartment is the 2nd and 3rd floors combined) and it's great. Living in this area provides easy access to downtown without having to drive (or park). Plus, you usually get a lot more for your money. I pay less than $700 a month for rent and I have a 2-bedroom with a huge kitchen, a huge dining room, a huge living room, a fireplace, a washer and dryer included, a front porch, a small backyard, a (shared) basement, and a driveway that fits 3 cars. For under $700 in an apartment complex you are probably looking at a 1-bedroom with a small kitchen and a living room, and maybe a balcony, but that's about it.

You can find a lot of these places on craigslist (that's how I found this one).

If money isn't really an issue then the Stadium District is brand new - right downtown on Michigan Ave (across the street from the baseball stadium and right next to a ton of bars and restaurants). It's pretty expensive though (over $1000 a month).

There are several new apartments and a few currently under construction. I would suggest to look into Stadium District and the Lodges in East Lansing.
