Hello,

I'm originally from MI and have been away for the past 22 years with the military. I recently retired from the Air Force and want to move back in the next 3-4 years (after my kids finish high school). Although I have my MBA, I am actually looking into finishing a teaching degree, specializing in elementary education and special education. In a perfect situation, I would love to live in the northern 1/2 of the lower peninsula and find a teaching job in a rural school district. My family and I just got back from vacation there last month and loved it...I can't wait to move back 'home'.

However, I know that the job market in MI is not great and from the posts I've read on here before, finding a teaching job is very, very difficult.

With that said, I'm wondering if anyone has some opinions on how the job market for teachers (specifically elementary/special ed) would be 4 years from now. Are there a lot of older teachers expecting to retire in the next few years? How difficult do you think it would be for me to find a teaching job there?

Although I would welcome anyone's sincere comments, I would love to hear from any current/former teachers or administrators...especially if you have experience in the northern part of the state.

Thanks,

-Bill

Take a look on Teaching Jobs and you will see there are quite a few SpEd positions. Once you have your certificate, there will probably be a few.
