If you want snow tires, you need to get snow tires. Only a few of them work at all and all season tires are pretty worthless on snow/ice. Last I dug into it there were two good snow tires. Blizzack wr 60 or somethig simlar to that and winterforce tife (cannto remember who makes them). Lots of good information online. Tire rack is the bast site for tons of information in one place.

I had a set of Nokian Vitiiva on my 95 Chevy Silverado 4 x 4. They were the best tire I have ever run in the snow.

I have the Nokian Vitiiva on my Durango and they are VERY good 3 season tires and mediocre winter tires. Best winter tires I have ever run on my vehicles have been #1: Blizzak ws60; #2: Firestone Winterforce; #3: Nokian Hakkapeliitta

All-Season tires are really 3 season tires and they lose a LOT of performance in the winter due to the rubber compound getting too hard to hold the road good when the temps drop below the 40's. The BEST thing is to have 2 sets of tires. The first set for the 8 months of Spring to Fall and dedicated winter tires for the winter months.

Just curious as to why you're posting this in the Michigan forum?

Nokians are generally considered among the best if not the best winter tire brand. While they make other types, they are particularly known for their winter tires. They're based in Finland and they operate the world's only year-round winter tire testing facility.

Drover, I posted it here because I can't find them in Chicago so didn't think many would know. If I get them, they would be sent here from Michigan.

Drover, they are considered among the best, if not the best winter tire brand. At the time I went online and searched various sites and kept coming back to the Nokian brand. I purchased the tires for a 2002 Ford Explorer and I am/was very happy with their performance.

mag32gie, I don't know about finding them in Chicago but you can try the Suburban Tire Center as I have listed it below. Good luck!

Some time back I purchased these tires at Suburban Tire Auto Care Ctr in Berwyn, Il I have since been back there and apparently it has been out of business over a year now, however, they do have three other locations in Glendale Heights 630-790-1600, Hanover Park 630-830-3997, and St. Charles 630-584-1866.

Never heard of Nokian. I've been driving Cooper for many years, here in N. MI and Alaska. The key to driving on snow and ice is knowing how to drive on snow and ice, the best tire in the world wont help if you don't know how to drive in the conditions.

These Nokian tyres have "Spikes" (Around half of peoples here is using winter tyres with spikes) but Nokian winter tyres with out spikes are great too.
Nokia tyre has manufactored car tyres from year 1932 and started with rubber boots at year 1898....so they have lot of know how concerning winter tyres.
Modell name "Hakkapeliitta" is legendary and I think that every finn (Who is car owner) knows it.

nokian rotiiva at tires were put on my 2009 f-150 brand new when I bought it from the dealership. I couldn't believe how smooth and quiet they rode for an all terrain. I have 12,000 miles on them and they are still looking good. i am at the 80% indicator. very pleased with how they handle on the highway or off road.
