True. The grass always seems greener somewhere else. I live in the Vegas area too and dream of moving back to MI. I guess the best senerio would be to spend winters in NV and summers in MI, if you could work that out. Too bad that "Have to work" thing keeps getting in the way. By the way, the Las Vegas economy is looking as bad as MI, at least in construction. At least in MI you can get a 4 bedroom house for under $300,000, and it may even have a yard, with that green stuff...And there's also, what was that word,"seasons"?

They might if their only experience of Vegas is the inside an air-conditioned casino.

I volunteer to ride at the back of the short bus to get out of here. I'm Rosa Parks in reverse.

I was laid off from Lockheed Martin back in January in Colorado Springs. Before I left, one regret I had was I should have grabbed their newsletter. It had an article about the company opening an off-shore center in India for engineering and software positions. I don't know how these companies that deal in our defense are getting away with this especially with classified information that either gets leaked out or can be derived from the broken pieces of info. One thing in the classified world, you can have information that it is by itself is unclassified but when the different pieces of info are put together, it is considered classified.

Yet procurement rules would favor the use of the Russian rocket to "save" the taxpayers money.

Default Going, but I may be back in a few years!

I just closed on my house this morning, and will move out this weekend. I plan on taking a roadtrip down south to find a job and a place I would like to live.

I think though, that if things work out for me the way I am expecting, I may be back in a few years. It would be a shame for my grandson to not be able to spend a few weeks in the summer in the Traverse City area.

I will miss it, but I need to get out of Dodge for a bit.

The economy is bad in MI, but it is my home and i DO NOT want to move. Like someone said, people always think the grass is greener somewhere else. I have heard so many horror stories of people who move out and either come right back or wish they could. MI is and always will be my home!

Moved to Tucson 3 years ago for work. I've regretted it ever since. Noting holds a candle to Michigan.

I left Michigan about a month ago. It was a hard decision for my husband and I but it basically came down to survival. Sink or swim. We chose to swim. My husband had his resume on monster and careerbuilder for two years. The ONLY calls we got were from companies out of state. We held on hoping at some point a decent offer would come through so we could stay but it never happened. I have always been able to work and found it very depressing that I was unable to find a decent job. I was laid off from several jobs within a five year span. The more gaps in my work history made it even more difficult to find a job. My husband worked for a company that was struggling and it was only a matter of time before the company folded. We knew we had to make some tough decisions when my husband's paychecks bounced and we never knew if our medical insurance was good.

We ended up in Indiana of all places. Most of the job offers my husband got were from North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. I figured we would eventually end up in one of those places. But the best job offer by far came from Honeywell in Indiana and since its only a five hour drive from family we figured it was our best option.

I think the most interesting part of leaving where you grew up is how threatened some people feel by it. Most of my friends and family were happy for us. They knew that it was the best decision for us in the long run. But my in-laws were down right outraged when we broke the news we were leaving. We heard every possible horror story of when someone leaves the state, how we will hate it, how we will be back due to failure, etc etc. It was upsetting and heart breaking for us to deal with so much crap before making such a major move. Even now we get calls "hate it yet?" Its enough for us to think we might have an Indiana Christmas and not go home for a big helping of negativity.

We do feel happy with our decision. Its nice to have money in our pockets, decent food on the table, cheaper car insurance, cheap train rides to Chicago and Notre Dame games. I think people should try to live away from where they grew up even if they dont end up liking it. If anything its a new experience and will give you a better appreciation of where you came from.
