Ohio has 4 long Interstates that are free: I-75, I-77, I-71, and I-70.

Yep.. Have traveled them all except I-77. Also us 30 ( Crossses the whole state from IN to PA ) is now mostly up to freeway ( interstate ) standards as well ( Only a small section between Mansfield and Wooster is not but being worked on. And then east of I-77 is not) which more and more people are taking to avoid the tolls on the turnpike.

Speaking of 75, Chrysler Drive between 9 and 10 Mile is all asphalt now and it's incredibly smooth. Would be nice if all Michigan roads were re-paved like that instead of the same old patchy concrete job that wears out in 2 years. I'm sure my shocks and tires would appreciate that too. I'm absolutely sure there's a money issue there though that's keeping it from happening.

Up north you will never see a concrete highway, all the way to Alaska. Matainence is one thing rebuilding another.

The roads never got fixed after Engler raised the state gas tax.

I enjoyed living off of a dirt road while in Michigan. Very little traffic, and slow when it did exist.

Then they paved our road.

Can you guess what happened?

Same thing for me , I once lived in the South Haven area. We were on a dirt(gravel ) road that split the property getting to and from our dock. ....then they paved the dam road, it became a drag strip, and there were always toddlers crossing the road with their rubber ducks. It became a hard property to sell because of the danger. The state and county did not care, I even put up my own slow down signs which were confiscated . The safty factor would not be addressed until there were at lest one or two fatalities . In winter the new paved road was only plowed during weekdays......Sure was glad to get out of lower Michigan, I hated the place !

Funny... I grew up on a dirt road and spent the whole time wishing they would pave it.
