.. Hmmm... It is my pit stop junction when I head to Toledo?

Jackson is cheaper, can have higher crime. Low housing prices, fewer employment opportunities, schools leave something to be desired, lower county taxes. I personally wouldn't choose to live in Jackson proper if I had other choices, but plenty of folks get along just fine.

Is there specific information you're looking for?

This would be useful information.

I have friends in both Jackson and Grass Lake and visit quite often.

What do you want to know?

Relative to the person and lifestyle, actually. For example, I wouldn't live in Jackson because I want better school options than Jackson offers. But, for inexpensive housing options for someone working in Ann Arbor, the location is ok.

Jackson is like all cities - good parts, bad parts. The crime isn't so outrageous as say, Flint, but there are some notable events here and there.

I am a technician who travels the state. There's a look to people who live in Jackson, regardless of race or weight - they all look gaunt. I personally think it is the water.

ALL look gaunt?

According to Merriam-Webster, gaunt is defined thus:

Quote:
excessively thin and angular
Hardly likely anywhere in the US, let along Michigan. I'm calling BS unless your post is satire and I just got whooshed.

My sister lived there for several years. There is a big prison. It had a fence in her back yard (but it was way way back). They once had law enforcement all over their place looking for someone who got out. OTher than that, it was a quiet peafeul place to live for them.

There is a neat fountain downtown.

There is a great steakhouse (forget the name but it is in the same strip mall as an applebees).

It is nicely located for access to all kinds of great things.

It is cheaper than most of the Detroit Metro and Ann Arbor area communities.

It has a cool race track where i will go next weekend for a class and a few laps in a NASCAR car. (Whoo hoo!)

It is close enough to Ann Arbor to attend U-M football games. Same is true of Lansing if you would want to go to an MSU game for some wierd reason (maybe the UM/MSU game). You can also go to MSU and see the famous cow with a plastic window in its stomach.

My sister and her husband felt a bit secluded kind of away form things they new and were familiar with (i.e. Detroit Metro). He works in Downtown Detroit and it is a ridiculous commute. Building inspectors there seemed to be pretty easy going at the time.

That is about all I can tell you about it. Good luck.
