Huh? What part of: more gas purchased -> more sales tax revenues for roads is wrong?

Think about it. If we drive 90 mph, we won't even feel some of the potholes. We'll practically float right over them. We can stop spending money on roads altogether and maybe build a skyscraper in Mt. Pleasant or a 2nd state capital in the U.P. The possibilities will be endless when we free up all of that road repair money.

Not really. Out west, many states have a 75 MPH limit. Parts of Texas have an 85 MPH limit. In those areas, people don't automatically tack on 10 mph every time. Sure some people do, but the majority don't, as 75 still pretty fast . If your going 85, your passing 90% of cars.

Not necessarily true. Here in soCal it seems that no matter what speed someone is driving, there will always be someone else who will want to pass.

Raising it to 80 will just mean people are going to go 90-100.

.... Because auto insurance isn't expensive enough in this state.
.... Because the terrible drivers aren't getting any better with the lower speed limit.
.... Because the gas guzzlers aren't already going through enough gas and our gas prices aren't high enough.

Instead of focusing on THIS kind of legislation, how about the state focuses on doing something better for the people of Michigan??

Well if they raise the speed limit...cops are going to pay more attention to the speed of drivers..because they know if the speed limit is 80 then some idiot is going to drive 15 more than that....which means more speeding tickets...which means more money.

In Georgia if you go ONE mile over the speed limit you are speeding..point blank...and you are stuck with a $350.00 speeding ticket and a point toward your drivers license.

I have been told by many law enforcement folks here in Michigan and they will generally pull over a speeder at the +10 mph over mark. Most said they let the 5-7 mph over go due to the likelihood of speedometer variance.

Try driving 70 mph on west bound 96 from Brighton to Grand Rapids. 90% of cars pass me no matter what the time of day. Same on 696 in either direction. There are places where 70mph can get you pushed off the road.

If you have to slam on your brakes, that's your own damn fault. And you should be severely fined if you ram into me. I'm perfectly entitled to drive at minimum speed. If you don't like it, lobby to raise the minimum speed.
You have a right to it, but it's dangerous and inconsiderate. Maybe it'd be their fault if they rammed you, but do you really need to intentionally throw a dangerous obstacle to just because? It's dangerous enough to drive. Be considerate.

Do we really want to see my 8,000 pound Dodge in your rearview mirror (GRILLE, JUST GRILLE) because someone is doing 80 mph in the left lane and I decide I want to do 90mph?

Be considerate and do not TAILGATE at any speed. The front end you save may be your own.

If someone wants to go 70 mph or MORE, WTF are they doing in the right lane anyways?
