I heard that teacher jobs are hard to get here in Michigan as of right now. I will be graduating from Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn in May 2008 with an Associate's Degree in Pre-Secondary Education. Then, I want to transfer to Wayne State University in Detroit to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Education. I plan on majoring in Mathematics. I heard that there has ALWAYS been a demand for math teachers everywhere. I grew up in Michigan, so I hope I don't have to move out-of-state to teach math. Do you know anything about math teachers in Michigan?

I wouldn't worry too much. They always need a few math teachers here and there. In general new teachers are not having that hard a time getting jobs, but a word to the wise: ones who start out costing the school system more are likely to get downsized before they can get tenure. I've known it to happen to a few different people, even really good ones. Start humble salary-wise and work at Home Depot on the weekends if you have to, to make ends meet.

I am a Science major and a Math minor. Graduated from EMU. I, along with numerous of my co graduates have left the state. After going on numerous interviews where there was one or two openings and anywhere from 800 to 1000 resumes we all saw the writing on the wall. I am in Las Vegas, I have friends who went to North or South Carolina, Iowa, Texas, Arizona and California. Instant jobs. Also, in states where there is a real need for teachers they really seem to treat you better. I have been offered all kinds of crazy incentives for moving out here as have my friends. Good luck to you and I hope you find a job.... but know that if you don't there are always other states to explore.

There's no doubt that almost any state right now is a better place to find almost any job.
