Considering a position in Livonia. How far / how long, and in what direction, would one travel to live in a semi-rural area. Thanks.

Plymouth, Canton and Northville are all semi-rural to the West. 15 minute drive maybe?

I don't consider Plymouth, Canton or Northville to be rural at all. They used to be, but urban sprawl has destroyed that aspect of those communities. The closest due west communities are Superior and Salem Townships. If you buy an existing house you'll be fine...but please don't build something new out there--otherwise it won't be rural for long.

Yeah, I was just thinking this. Plymouth and Canton are similar to the Chicago suburbs (Lake-Cook border) I grew up in, and no one has thought of the area where I'm from as rural since probably the 70s, maybe through the mid 80s.

The area around Metro Airport is more semi-rural and probably less likely to be absorbed by sprawl. Airports tend to be discouraging for any major residential development.

I love how people like to fight about everything on this forum. The OP asked for "semi-rural." That to me means neighborhoods in a somewhat country like setting.

I've visited most of Plymouth, Canton and Northville, it would fit that bill (obviously further away from 275). Corner of Ann Arbor Road and Ann Arbor Trail, for example. 2 lane primary roads, wide shoulders, mostly wooded or fields between the subdivisions = semi-rural.

Corner of Beck Road and Warren. I can't find a building taller than two stories for miles around.

The downtown megalopolis of Canton:
