Well no wonder, you drive a 1977940 Pontiac. Those things are quite rare.

Michigan auto insurance costs ARE extremely high compared to neighboring states. I had a quote for over $4,100 to insure 2 12-year old cars with Allstate, with a $500 deductible for each car. This is with clean driving records (my wife and I, both over 50), and already having been insured for the past 7 years w/Allstate while living in Illinois, and a credit score north of 800. Our Illinois annual premium for identical coverage was $ 2,016. Quotes from State Farm were not much different. Finally went w/ Esurance for about the same as what we were paying to Allstate in Illinois.

We also lived in southeast Virginia for 6 years, and insurance rates there were similar to Illinois.

Yes, Michigan's auto insurance rates ARE ridiculously high.

When I transferred my PLPD from California to Michigan two years ago, for my 25 year old Volvo, it went from $35 to $75 per month. In Ann Arbor.
When I moved to Mass a few months later, it went back down to $45 per month (crappy zip code).

Michigan is high for a few reasons. Because no fault. Because Michigan forces you to pay a few hundred a year into a couple funds.

There are 6 states that are no-fault. They are 6 of the 7 most expensive car insurance states in the US!

Could you post a copy of the statements (with identifying information blackened out, of course). I have the suspicion you may be misreading them.

Wait, what?

You've also gotten a quote for $960 for a year's worth of insurance, do I have that right?
So what's with the drama mama in your OP?
$960 for PLPD in MI is reasonable. It's about what I pay. Go for it. Problem solved. No drama necessary.
