I just moved here from Chicago about a year ago and found the fun of firearms ... Illinois laws SUCK.

i have my local ranges i go to but i was wondering if anyone knows any place near TROY,MI where i can just go bring a rifle and some things to shoot and have fun. distance doesn't matter to much because i could make a day of it.

Look for state land near Lapeer. BUT you can only use a .22 rifle, hand gun or a shotgun SOUTH of Midland. You have to go NORTH of midland to use a center fire rifle.

The caliber/weapon type restrictions only apply to hunting deer, perfectly legal to use a centerfire rifle to target shoot and hunt some types of predators (Coyote) in the Southern portion of the state.

Just an FYI, the Natural Resources Commission is currently considering a recommendation made by the DNR, to change the rules in the SLP and allow certain centerfire straight walled pistol cartridges to be used in rifles next year in the "Shotgun" zone, which will also be renamed as the "limited firearms deer zone". The NRC will be deciding in June whether or not to make that change.
