there are many native american communities in michigan!

upper peninsula:
-chippewa in the sault. also there is a bay mills tribe near there.
-ojibwa in st. ignace.
-keweenaw bay indian community in baraga & marquette

lower peninsula:
-ottawa/chippewa in grand traverse county
-ottawa in petoskey
-ottawa in manistee
-chippewa in mt. pleasant
-potawatomi near kalamazoo

although my personal experience from living in the sault is that the native american coomunity htere is quite large, while it doesnt seem so in traverse city (where i am at right now) or petoskey. i grew up in st. ignace and the native american population thrives there- pretty much everyone has native american in them. so i'm inclined to think its mostly in the UP. but please dont take my word for it! i just know where i've lived myself.

good luck in your search!

Default MI Native Tribes

There's also a Potawatomi Tribe in Harris which is about 15 miles west of Escanaba

To be honest, your best bet is to stay north of the bridge
