To the best of my knowledge the KKK strongholds in the state are a thing of the past so you should be ok anywhere.

There are more KKK groups in the South than anywhere else in the USA and besides, the KKK are a bunch of old cowards who gather around at night and spew their hatred by fireside. A few might march, but the last lynching by the KKK was in 1981 by a KKK group in Mobile,AL. The people who did that were incarcerated for life. One of them has since died. The United Klans of America were sued for everything they had and now membership is very low. Michigan has very little if any Klan activity. That isn't to say Michigan doesn't have its share of hate groups. It does and it would be a lie to say it doesn't. With that said, I would just give Michigan a try anyway. I hear than Ann Arbor is pretty nice. My best solution I can give to you is that if Michigan means that much to you, give it a try and don't let anything stop you.

They were chased out nearly 30 years ago now, in fact. Enter at will.

Michigan is not a racist state. I don't know where that reputation comes from, but it's totally not true. I know plenty of interracial couples here, and it's no big deal. No one even thinks twice about it. Also, from personal experience, I've never experienced any racism here, and I live in one of the most rural counties in the state.

Well, a guy I know was sitting in a bar near here and some phule tried to recruit him for some sort of hate group a couple years ago. He got laughed out of the bar.
