We live up north but were down in Troy last weekend. I am not one for all that traffic and all those people, but the area really impressed me. I would never give up my beautiful north, but if I had to live in that area I would.

Thanks for your replies. I guess as its a possible move from Ireland - USA & such a huge step can never have enough replies or info posted here!!
Thanks again !!
In that price you wont be able to find a home rental in Birmingham. Just doing a quick search in Birmingham or a 3 bedroom it would be around 2500. In Troy you would probably be able to find a home though.
I went to Birmingham schools though that was back in the 80s and 90s. I had a good experience and if I had kids I would like them to attend that district though there would be others I would consider too. Also just because you live in a city it does not mean you will go to that district. For example I did not live in Birmingham but went to that school district. I am not sure all the cities that go to Birmingham but I know parts of West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills do. I think a small part of Troy.
As for Troy yes there is a lot of congestion in some areas especially near the Somerset mall which is one of the nicest malls in my opinion.
I can understand it being a huge change. Do you know anyone in the area?

Royal Oak may be a good choice to consider. Highly rated schools and just South of Troy. Traffic may be less too.
