Hey guys,

I was hoping to get some advice/recommendation on a camp ground in the LP. Last few years I've taken my family tent camping around sleeping bear sand dunes and we've had a lot of fun, but this year i'd like to try something new.

What I'm looking for...

1. I'd like the camp site to be right on a lake where my kids could just jump in the water and we could fish from the shore line. This is def the most important thing I'm looking for.
2. We can't really do backpacking with 2 small kids, but a rustic/mordern camp ground is fine
3. Place were we could ride bikes and maybe do some hiking
4. River where we could do some kayaking/canoeing

Thanks!

Where do you live? Most of the Metro Parks in Metro Detroit have overnight tent camping. They are right on lakes you can swim in and are surrounded by biking/hike trails, swings and you can rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboats. For example, this one is at Stoney Creek near Romeo/Washington Twp. Good place to ease your kids into it if younger without too rough of terrain.

Thanks for the reply belle. We actually live right by Detroit...we're prefer to get away and go up north.

Petoskey State Park, sandy beaches and right next to the Little Traverse Wheel Way which goes from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix. From the state park it is about 4.7miles either way to Petoskey or Harbor Springs where there is loads to do and see in the summertime.

Interlochen State Park has two lakes, both with swimming & fishing. I don't know about sites right on the lakes. Very pretty area! My favorite campground in the LP is Wilderness State Park, west of Mackinaw City. Gorgeous!

Yea it doesnt look like it has any sites on either lake. Maybe i'll just have to give up on that idea. I've heard great things about Wilderness state park, i'll have to do more research on it.
