I haven't seen this area discussed in a while. What's been going on in Flint and the surrounding communities lately? I live about an hour away, and Flint is the only "big city" nearby, so while I recognize it's faults I'm also drawn to the area to try and find a better variety of jobs than in my small hometown. Unfortunately I'm also sort of stuck near the Tri-Cities for the forseeable future, so I'm trying to make the best of what I have available to me.

I'm not really familiar with most of the suburbs of Flint, are there any that, even though they are small, have any unique, interesting or fun features? Especially cultural things or outdoor activities? How active is the Flint area political and non-profit scene?

Don't go, bad water, rude peeps, and depressed area from my understanding. People are always complaining about the rotten water quality.

Flint used to buy water from Detroit but last year, they figured that they could save money by using their own water system. Right now, they're building a pipeline to Lake Huron (which Detroit already sources water from), but Flint River is currently the temporary source of water. Not really the freshest source and on top of that, Flint has had issues in making it drinkable.

Other than that, the local economy is slowly making it's way back. Downtown Flint is seeing a slow revival though crime is still an issue in a few big areas of the city. Honestly though, there's probably more going on in the Tri-cities than in Flint so it's not like you'd be moving into a superior area.
