Hello,
I would appreciate any direction on nice rural areas that are not dominated by hunting activities.
(Please don't assume I am "anti-hunting"...I am not. I just prefer not to live around it. Thank you)

I really love Michigan and have travelled around the entire western half from IN border up to Northport. I have been looking for property in this area and I wonder...Is it even possible to avoid hunting areas living in rural Michigan? Thank you!

The only way of avoiding hunting I can think of is buy a lot of land.

Then you will control it..........stay away from any state owned land.

I think that hunting and rural communitites kind of go hand in hand, but it doesn't have to dominate an area. Beaver Island, for example, is full of hunters/hunting activitites. The island is huge though and the population is low, so it never seems to take over the community as a whole. I'd say that things like tourism, school-related activitites, and community events are more the primary focus. Unless you're actively involved in hunting on the island you don't really think much of it.

You must be thinking about some OTHER state. There's no real way to get away from hunters and hunting in Michigan. State owned land is everywhere, and lots of ppl hunt.

A rural area just outside of a city (like Grand Rapids or Lansing) will have less hunting. Hunters also don't generally like to hunt in open cornfields, and prefer to put their stands in wooded areas. So find a massive cornfield near a big city and plop a house right in the middle of it.

Thank you all for the replies. Maybe I should find a map of state owned land in MI as a place to start.

I'm in the Lansing area and have lived in the rural parts of Lansing most of my life. I disagree with this statement. Once you're out of the city limits, hunting is everywhere. Cornfields, woods, wetlands .. Hunters don't discriminate as long as it is legal. You might have some luck in areas of Meridian Township where East Lansing butts up to Haslett / Okemos for the Lansing area. I've traveled extensively back and forth between Lansing and Toledo, and just about every field I have ever passed has a hunting stand of some sort. You may have some luck closer to Detroit metro where city limits mesh into each other, or maybe outskirts of Grand Rapids, or else, out of state.
