I lived in Auburn for 10 years (recently--just left 2 years ago) and I highly recommend it. There's not a lot to do there, but it is very convenient, safe and clean. My kids were in the schools in Auburn and they had a good experience. Even though the Auburn schools are part of the Bay City school district, they are still much better quality than the schools actually inside the city limits of Bay City.

My parents still live in Bay City but in general, I'm not a fan of the town. It's very rundown in most places. Monitor Township is one of the nicer neighborhoods or "suburbs" of Bay City, but it has the drawback of being close enough to the sugar factor that it has the very unpleasant smell of sugar beet processing during most of the year. If you gave me a choice of Midland vs. Bay City, I'd choose Midland hands down. But I did find Midland kind of snooty so I preferred to live in Auburn and do most of my shopping in Midland.

I would stay in grand rapids. There is nothing in midland. Pretty boring. Everything is closing up.
